Kent County Cricket Club have confirmed that batsman Sam Northeast has extended his contract with the Club for a further year.

Northeast made his first class debut for Kent on 19 September 2007, in their final LV County Championship game of the season, against Durham at the St Lawrence Ground. Since then, the 21 year old has played 44 first class matches for Kent, scoring 2184 runs, at an average of 28.00.

He has scored three hundreds and 10 fifties for the county. This season he has made crucial runs in one-day and t20 cricket and has become an established member of the team in all forms of cricket.

Northeast commented on the news; “I’m happy to have extended my contract with Kent. The Club is going forward; with developments at the St Lawrence Ground and youngsters coming through the Academy, and I want to be a part of it.

“I had a few points of my contract to discuss with the Club, but I’ve always wanted to stay at Kent and I want to be a part of the Club moving forward.”

Director of Cricket, Paul Farbrace commented on the announcement; “Sam made good progress in the LV=CC last year, and this year he has excelled in the one day game.

“Sam has determination and works hard and I am delighted that he will be staying. I hope Sam stays for a number of years in order to realise his potential here at Kent.”
